21st CCLC Specialist
Brittany Flippen is the Specialist for 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) in Richmond Public Schools (RPS). The 21st CCLC programs support the creation of opportunities for academic enrichment during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. Brittany returned to RPS after working as a Spanish teacher at John Marshall HS while also obtaining an Administration & Supervision Endorsement from Longwood University.
Prior to her role as Specialist of 21st CCLC programs with RPS, Brittany worked as a Program Officer at the Henrico Education Foundation, overseeing programming, curriculum, community partnerships, and grant management for various out-of-school time programs. Brittany began her education career as a Teach for America Detroit Corps member while also earning her Master’s in Teaching from Oakland University in 2014. She earned her B.A. in Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law from the University of Virginia in 2012.
Brittany is passionate about education and changing the lives of children for the better. Throughout her experience as a teacher and working with out-of-school time programs, she has been able to see the importance of access to post-secondary education options for students and its impact on the community. She is excited about the opportunity to be part of a team that is dedicated to breaking down barriers and expanding opportunities for students across Virginia.
