Assistant Principal

Lyons Sanchezconcha serves as assistant principal at Huguenot High School in Richmond Public Schools. With a background in college access, student advising, and as a classroom teacher, Lyons is passionate about expanding opportunities through education to students and families in Richmond and all across Virginia.

His passion for service extends beyond his career and into representation on various local and state boards. Lyons serves as Chair Emeritus for the Virginia Latino Advisory Board and on the Board of the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network. He also serves on the Advisory Board for Scholars Latino Initiative and Board of Directors for the Asian Latino Solidarity Alliance. In the past, Lyons has served on commissions and task forces for the Virginia Secretary of Education, Virginia Department of Education, The City of Richmond, and more.

Lyons was born in Lima, Peru and raised in Northern Virginia. After getting his associates degree at Northern Virginia Community College, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia. He recently completed his Masters of Education from the University of Richmond and is now working on this doctorate from William & Mary in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership.

“Mr.S,” as his students call him, is passionate about education equity, and he is proud to bring the Latino and immigrant representation to the table as an advocate all across the Commonwealth of Virginia. He gets his inspiration from his loving and hard-working family. Lyons was named a 2023 Top 40 Under 40 by Style Weekly Magazine and newly appointed to the City of Richmond’s Human Rights Commission.
